Soft Yellow

I spent some time looking through my stash of fabrics for a
solid yellow to use as sashing for the scrap quilt I'm
working on. I found a screaming bright yellow and a
buttercream yellow and finally found just the right shade of
soft yellow I wanted, but alas, there isn't enough for the
sashing, much less a border and binding. When I went
grocery shopping I checked at the fabric shop but was
disappointed there too. I'll try again in Corvallis on
Thursday but if I can find what I want I'll use a light blue
print which reads as a solid instead. I also found the blue
fabric I was looking for that I want to use to make a photo
quilt of my boys when they were babies which I've
tentatively titled "My favorite photo of you" and put it aside.

I bought a dozen ears of corn on the cob at Sherri Falk's
stand in Shedd today. That won't last long. I think I'll
pick some more up on Thursday and this time I'll buy two dozen.

I read 15 books in July which brings my total for the year
to 90 but it's slow going this month. I begin reading but
after a few pages I start to nod off and John needs to mark
my place and take off my reading glasses. I'm also
listening to a book on CDs, Alice Hoffman's Seventh Heaven,
as I piece the scrap quilt. I can't remember the name of
this pattern. It has a nine patch in the center but it's
actually a five patch pattern. Maybe I'll take a photo of
some of the blocks I've made and put it in my webshots
album and someone can tell me the name. Right now I'm just
calling it my summer quilt.

Except for the PBS news and Antiques Roadshow and Foyle's
War (a British production, also shown on PBS), I'm not
watching television. I didn't see any of the Democratic
Convention and I doubt I'll watch any of the Republican's.
I have no idea if the Summer Olympics have begun yet. That
is this year, isn't it? I'm not sure. It doesn't matter.
I did see a disturbing photo in the business section of
today's newspaper. It was a shot of the financial district
in New York and showed police in flak jackets carrying
automatic weapons among groups of men in suits and women in
summer dresses heading to work.
