Inspired by the NY Times front page photo on June 18, 2004
of a man, wailing hysterically in a makeshift morgue where
bloodied bodies are visible, including that of his only
son, who died when a place he was
at was attacked by a suicide bomber.

“My I Don’t Support This War Poem.”

Whose eyes cried
When his only son died
In Afghanistan
A 22-year-old man
Fallen victim to a suicide bomb of his fellow man
While America pushes forth with a so-called plan
That plays out more like ghastly leadership run amuck
Human lives stuck
In horrendous chambers of pain
Bloodied bodies line stockades in vain
While over here, it all remains the same.

Blue suits and collars
The almighty green dollar
The rich get richer
The poor die quicker
Because there is no equal healthcare
The government said it can’t afford welfare
But more than $80 billion dollars went over there
In the name of rebuilding democracy
America … land of true hypocrisy
Because we still
Kill
At will
While the soldiers who don’t even want to be there can’t
get a decent meal.

Whose eyes cried
When the sons and daughters on both sides died
Buried at distressing rates
Is this the fate
Of egalitarianism?
Is this the vision
Of better livin?
We found Saddam Hussein a long time ago
But why we were really there in the 1st place, we know
Is because the blood in the bushes boils
With oil
And taking over the soil
To continue the American custom of a fascist regime
And all it means
Is that men and women, Americans and Iraqi’s alike,
Give up their lives in a fight
That will not benefit street level commonality
That will not uplift the fundamental principalities
Of justice, air, freedom and food for all
Instead, the common people continue to fall
At the expense of a government rising
We need to start fighting
Against those who enlist us to fight on their behalf
And if there must be a blood bath
Let the blood of the innocent be spared
And let it be the blood of those who dared
To attempt to fool the wise
With their lies
Flow over and down into the drains
And let the people never cease their rising and resisting
until we all see true change.
