flexing in tortuga

So, there I was, thinking about teh future.

and, whilst I was taking Peirce home tonight for no other
reason than that I could after picking him from work, even
though I got fired/quit the other day, and the fact that it
is, on the opposite end of the fucking city....

Anyways, he and I were talking about his latest venture into
making his Viking Zombie movie, which is the sequel to the
first on he made on a Hi-8 last year, and is pretty damned
funny I have to add. He wants me to help him with his movie,
and I’ve agreed to help as much as I can..

We were yakking and I told him about my idea for a script
that i’ve been mulling around in my head. The original one
thats been sitting in my head for years, Nuns & Guns, sadly
will have to remain nothing more than a A High School drama
one shot sensation, and I will have to live with it.. damn,
I so wanted to write it, and film it, but the simple
logistics of it all, and the special effects, well, unless I
had a Million $$$ budget, and David Cronenberg, Alice Krige
and Harvey Kitel, all wanting to be in it, well, it’s a one
of those great “yer fucking dreaming boyo” kind of things...

So, I told him, getting back to the point at hand... About
my Art Thief flick, that I’d had running rather rampantly in
my brain. I realized that if he and I managed to get a $20K
grant for it, we could make it, using Digital cams, and some
low end special effects that this glorified typewriter I use
(it’s a 17” 1GHZ Mac powerbook with a gig of Ram), could do
easilly with the stuff I have installed on here..
specifically, Final Cut Pro 4, Shake 3, and the complete
line of Adobe software I’ve pirated from everyone I know...

Sitting in my car for almost 3 1/2 hours, we came up with
the script layout, the actual character names, setting, and
a half decent plot... I’m impressed.. I feel really good too..

The plot is relatively simplistic.. Art Thievery.. ooh,
ahh... but, it’s going to end up being a character peice,
and i’m throwing in some of my more interesting flairs to
which i’ve rarely delved into much.. I figure, that from my
preliminary writings, the scenes I have written in my head,
and imagined, come to about 100 minutes, probably a few
more, probably a few less... I want the film to be fast
paced, but not so fast that you loose anything.. I’ll be
throwing in some insidousness into it, some witty banter,
dark humor, some definite film noir touches, and of course
the gratuitous sex scene, the free for all fight scene, the
obvious “bomb and everyone dies” thing, and i’ve yet to
decide wether a happy ending, or a slightly more
Anti-Hero-ish ending... I was thinking I might go for the
very non typical “bad guys win” scenario.. but who knows..

I have a couple of “in’s” into the whole marketing thing of
it, and I know enough about editing, that should I need it,
I could do it myself, I know a couple of people who can
in fact “act”, and I know someone who has done camera work
before.. All I would need is 3 people who could act, someone
to do audio tracks, find some band to do some of the music
tracks I want done.. and someone who can actually do set
design.. blah, the last few will be the most difficult, but,
we’ll see, whenever, it shouldnt’ be too hard to find them.
Sigh... that my mom can find someone to distribute it for
me, or actually do it herself using her company, and get it
sent to various Film Festivals is the only thing that really
bugs me, but well, I suppose if I want to get it done, I’ll
have to.

According to Pierce, if I throw in a lesbian/gay marriage
theme into it, I may actually get the grant more than I
would otherwise.. but, I’m so straight, it would come off as
if some straight guy was writing a gay part.. so, maybe
someone who is actually bi/lesbian/gay or, transgendered...
mm.. just thought of something... anyways, I may try to
pander to the stupidity of the art council I am trying to
get a grant from, and then find someone who, can in fact
write, is gay, and is willing to help me write the part out,
and give a point of view, that is in fact, a good, decent,
tightly woven storyline.. otherwise, I may just watch the
first, second and third season of Queer as Folk, and fake it...

So, I’ve been writing for 6 hours now, and fleshing out the
characters, so far, I have 7, 3 major, 2 moderate, and 2
minor, but equally vital characters..

But I don’t know shit, about Art.. So, for the next few
weeks, it looks as though I am going to become an expert on
art, art restoration, art history, art techniques, and the
value of specific peices from various backgrounds going back
to the 14th century...

If anyone has happened to have taken any art classes, MUCH
appreciated would be some point where I could just delve
into.. I think I will be taking a visit to the museums here,
and going to find out where the most Posh/Upscale gallery’s
in the city are, and raid them for information...

6am, need to sleep... or not...
