(Eli) The show at Skatelife on Friday..

Whitney Hunt got us a show in Rome at a skatepark
called “Skatelife” … with two other bands, “Advice of
James” and “The Illist” … Andrew, Seth, and I got there,
and Stu got there later cause he had to take a class at
work… We got set up, and found out that we were playing
first… the setup was rather unique, we played in a half-
pipe… it was cool, but slippery, and we didn’t have a lot
of standing room without going up on the sides… the other
bands set their stuff up behind us, and we got
soundchecked and ready to rock and roll… to our surprise,
a lot of Dahlonegians, including Daniel himself, showed up
to support the extreme rock… so we played Blue Sunday,
Bleeding Absolutes, Drama for Dummies, Little Cloud Dog,
Calendar Day Cliché, Arcade Parade, Nostalgia in the key
of A, and Stargazer vs. Shoegazer… all in all, it was a
high-energy, fun set, and even though we played first, and
more people meandered in later on, they were the illists’
friends and whatnot, so it was cool. After us Advice of
James played, and they were definitely unique.. they had a
keyboard, and an 80’s guitarist.. and it was dark,
definitely different.. we hung out and talked to them for
a while.. their usual drummer.. (a girl, no less), was
out, and they had another dude, the lead singer of “Within
Me” filling in on drums, and he did a great job,
especially considering that they had 2 days of practice
with him under their belts. The Illist got up last, and
played for a long, long time.. they were kinda pop-
punk/rock, and personally, the coolest thing they did was
cover “Chem 6a”… definitely brought back some roots
there. The guy running the skatepark was really awesome
as well, we hung out and talked to him for a long time…
picked up some qt on the way home, and got to bed at like
2 or 3, only to get up the next morning at 6 and head out
to Memphis.
