Maundy Thursday

The service this evening was very different from the only
other one I ever attended. This first one was in a Catholic
Church when I was high school, in the 1960's before Vatican
II, before all the changes came about.

Marc had wanted to go so we decided to go on our bikes. It
started late, at 9 or 10 o'clock and it was dark. The
church was dark too, lit only with candles. There was a lot
of incense, much more than usual and a procession of the
Holy Eucharist carried up high by the priest, followed by a
group of altar boys swinging incense holders and ringing bells.

The only other thing I can remember is the ride home, in the
still darkness, thinking of what I'd seen and heard.
