11. Blue Jeans - blur
I don't know why, but this will always be one of my
favourite blur songs. I think its the theme. The 'resigned
to ones fate to such an extent as to enjoy it' theme that
pervades the song - its about relationships, of course,
aren't all the best songs...but...I don't know. Its the "I
wanna stay this way forever, if you don't mind" part.
Oh, I just love the glum, but optimistic look of the song.
How did I read it last week? I'll go find it. It was one of
the best sentences I've EVER ever read. "It seemed,
methought, as if there lay upon the brightness a shadowy
presence of disappointments now unfelt, but never forgotten.
It was at once the melancholy of hope and resignation".
That was Coleridge, in a sermon of 1817 I read the other day.
I like it. It makes me feel like Blue Jeans by blur.
