I have an obsession. I have an obsession with a television
show. Buffy the Vampire Slayer has ruled my Tuesday nights
for seven seasons. Now most people just look at the name of
the show and are appalled. “You watch a show about
vampires?” was the usual response I received. Well, it’s not
only about vampires, it has demons, goblins, G-ds, and every
other hell creature one can imagine. The show is so much
more though. The demons and vampires are just there to spice
things up. The show is about a girl. A “different” girl in
today’s obsessively “normal” society. All she ever wants is
to be “normal. Now, how many of you have ever felt abnormal?
During our lives, we are bound to succumb to the pressures
of “normality.” Buffy deals with everything from just trying
to fit in, to falling in and out of love, to her mother’s
unexpected death, to even her own death. She fights every
day, but not only vampires but with herself. Season by
season she deals with her power. As her power gets stronger,
as she gets more of a hold on every one else’s lives, she
looses grip of her own. She looses faith, pride, friends,
family, and love. Geared toward a more adult audience, Buffy
the Vampire Slayer is able to insert a large amount of
sexuality into her character. As each series goes on, it
becomes darker and more sexual. Buffy is not only fighting
the powers of evil, but trying to have a relationship with
the evil forces as well. The show encourages you to think
and analyze. The writing for the show is amazing and the
actors are spectacular. This show is the best show of our
generation.
