What's it like to hate the world?

So, I was driving my sister and our mutual friend home
from school today, and as I drove, I listened to my sister
tell our friend about how much she hates everyone and
everything. Why? Because some guys at lunch told her that
she has a nice rack. And that was it.

Now, if you didn't already assume it, my sister is
a...uh...let's say "slightly dramatic" person
(understatement of the year).

Don't get me wrong.

I understand that having some guys talk about your breasts
can be an offensive, demeaning thing, but it is definitely
not the most traumatic event ever. I've had my fair share
of sexual harassment and abuse, but I didn't turn into
miss doom and gloom because of it. Yeah, sure, I'd be
angry at these guys too if they talked about my boobs like
that, but this actually caused my darling sister to say "I
hate the Angel Tree." And when I replied with a
justified "Why? Did these young, poor children who won't
have much of a Christmas do something to you?" she simply
said, "No, but they're people."

Pardon me, I guess I just don't know what it's like to
hate the world and everything in it.

The thing is, the world is not full of bad people, and her
life is definitely not terrible. How is it fulfilling,
empowering, or beneficial to harbor so much anger and
bitterness inside yourself and then direct it at
everything that lives?

I mean, I'm no bleeding-heart liberal (or maybe I am), but
it seems much better for all involved to incorporate a
little compassion and understanding into every day life.

But that's just my opinion, and I could be wrong.
