The Psychology Chronicles, part 1

Teenage Sociology

aahhaha... sumtimes i crack myself up. and no, not
because i find myself hilarious, im not THAT conceded. but
simply bc of trying to watch myself from another viewpoint
and realizing how fuckin stupid i am! stupid in the
weird, "wht the hell is that chick doin now??" kinda way,
not the jackassy "wht a bitch" type way. and i mean, juss
sittin here readin over my old entries, i see myself trying
so damn hard to analyze myself that it becomes impossible.
i try to keep and honest opinion and moderate viewpoint on
everything, but as usual, the times comes whn i realize im
all wrong or i look back and im embarrassed about how i
used to be and that i wz blind, ignorant, and juss simple-
minded...
yall probly have no fuckin idea wht im bablin about, do
ya? thats ok, neither do i. but i just now came to a
decision about this entry. yea, thats rite. ive spent this
entire time trying 2 stall so i could actually think of a
topic to write about. SO! lets start off with a discussion
about the socialogy of the teenage world as i know it. mind
you, this is purely speculation, MY speculation, and is in
no way responsible for ur overdosing on advil due to
extreme headaches caused by these incessant ramblings.
these are simply opinions, so DONT SUE ME!
*ahem*
teenagers are hypocrytes. its a pure and simple fact of
life. and no matter how much each one of us despises that
theory and claims that we're the exception to it, we're
not. i have noticed, through observations of everyone
around me, myself included, that teens have these grand
opinions about the way the world SHOULD be, and never about
the way the world IS. allow me to elaborate. we believe
that ppl should act a certain way, and we preach and bitch
about it and try to get everyone around to act that way
until they do. but its not perfect and they find another
aspect to bitch about. its not until we grow up and mature
that werealize that it doesnt matter what are idea of the
perfect world is, it will NEVER be that way, and we learn
we need to start acting in ways to adapt to that real
world. lost? i kno. ur thinkin "how the hell does this
explain how we're hypocrytes?" well im not sure exactly how
it does quite yet, but i think im gettin there. lets use an
example.
in this day and age, the idea of becoming an individual
had completely taken over our minds, and we begin to form
principles ans social standards around that idea. we preach
that "you need to be urself" and "dont follow the crowd"
yadda yadda. now yes, that would be a perfect world, where
ppl could express themselves however they wanted without
conseqence, be it tattoos, peircings, clown suits,
whatever. now it splits into the 2 realities:
1) we dont seem to realize that it DOES matter what other
think of how you look. in the business world, you MUST fit
in, as blasphemous as that sounds. no high paying,
respectible job will ever let a tattooed and peirced freak
represent their company. the adult wolrd looks down upon
that behavior, and even if that tattooed, peirced freak is
the smartest, hardest working, best person for the job,
first impressions make a difference. and what do you think
they'll see? the typical, sterotyped tattooed freak with no
motivation to work and no respect for authority, which 9
times out of 10 is absolutely true. they wont gamble with
those odds.
2)heres where the hypocryte bit comes in. and im sure if
ur avid max's-diary readers, uve heard this all before.
these kids today preach that we need to be individuals with
their own sense of style, and to just "be urself." and yet
they mock and ridicle those who have repeated a style
already in use. if they have anything mainstream, theyre
posers. if they try to be "individuals" after that, theyre
posers. no one wins.
still confused? ok, allow me to briefly go over my theory
of social evolution:
ppl say one thing, and social customs show that one
thing. but as time goes on and each new generation moves
into power, those things change slightly. and with the next
group, it changes more and more until it eventually becomes
a full 180 degreee turn-around. this is known as social
change. each generation is defined and stereotyped by those
changes that made it famous. like the depression of the 30s
or the hippes of the 60's and even the stereotypes of 2day.

duh.

now for how this works on a micro-scale with teens and
cliques:
it always used to typically be that there were the
popular jocks and the outcasts. you were either one or the
other. the jocks were stereotypically the bullies that
picked on the weaker ones to gain their own social
standing. you had to fit in. it was a survival reaction. no
body wanted to make the jocks angry, so in order to gain
their respect, they had to make fun of those that were
different from those jocks. the only way to get out from
under all that, was to step on somebody else. fight back
was not an opition. one against hundreds. too much fear
existed to even try it. but then sum ppl realize that there
is power in masses. they needed more ppl on their side.
they need ppl they could fit in with. eventually, this
broke into another clique, which we see today as punks and
goths. subcultures. at first, they existed out of the way
of the other, more powerful clique, today known as preps or
Abercrombies. luckily, someone from the subculture/outcast
clique realized the significant social power of music. now,
with all this built-up rage and want for vengence for years
of being the ones left out, this errupted into a stange of
rebellion, known as rock n' roll, thanx to that famous guy,
Elvis. then it changed again, in the form of an even more
rebellious stage: punk, thanx to The Who. now ever since
the subcultures began fighting back against the popular
cliques and trying to win control, they have become more
powerful. their original ideas of having a group where
anyone could be whoever they truely were without worry of
being made fun of by the popular ppl finally were acheived.
but it didnt stop there. since humans inherantly are always
in need of a "drive," a reason to be, a motivation for
action, the social standards kept changing. the original
innocent ideas morphed into principles to live by, which
morphed into standards that others had to live by. so now
these subcultures (mostly punk) have risen to a point
where "you can be urself without worry" changed into "be
unique, just like the rest of us, or face ridicule and
unpopularity for life!" so now, others want to be in that
clique because it is now the popular one and they will be
made fun of if they dont. the tides have changed so far
around that all that has happened is a lable change: from
Jocks to Punks. see how hypocritacle that is? "you have to
be 'urself' by dressing like us! mainstream is wrong!"
well, what if being mainstream IS being urself? then u get
made fun of for being urself, eventhough the principle the
punk clique was founded on was that should be themselves...
and now that punk is more popular than the other cliques,
then doesnt that make it mainstream?

hypocrytes...

we should just go through life and not worry about wht
the hell everyone else is wearing or wht they like. it
doesnt matter, so forget it. just worry about ur own
goddamn life, and stop trying to make other ppl's lives a
living hell...
but see? once again, as a teen, I preach about how i
believe the way the world SHOULD be, and not how it is.

hypocrates...

every last one of us.
