Professor Cooney on thoughts...

We believe our thoughts are our most private things, they define a
person as an individual and are something no one has access or
even insight to without our consent. But we express our thoughts
to ourselves through sentances (language), because language is
a device of society these seemingly individual thoughts are really
something totally common. Therefore making us completely a
derivative of society. We are only able to think what societies
language gives us access to. That general summary of Dr.
Cooney's statement today really expresses the idea that no man is
an island. Everyone is affected by and has an effect on everyone
else. It is ignorace to think that your behavior has consequences
for you only, and even more ignorant to believe that a behavior
has no consequences at all. I admire people that have strong
ideals and who desire to make the world better, but I have no
patiance for people who throw out rediculous ideals to try and
prove that they are non-conformists and are unaffected by society.
