Driving Way Past Sunset

The moon is eerie tonight.
Watch it chase behind me wrapped in orange blankets.
Covered like a pancake
shining like a penny.
It isn't worth that much to me tonight.

The real treasure sparkles above my head.
Intangible beads of shining, glinting
diamonds.
Hundreds of years ago
people believed them gods,
spirits of ancestors,
and guideposts for a way to live.

Yes they guide me now.
Teach me lessons hidden beyond
the hood of the night horse that I ride.
I follow them earnestly like a lover.
Admiring,
Exhalting,
Adoring.
I only want for them to get me home tonight.

But I suppose,
the first problem I must face,
is where is home?

And what is a home when you're out to roam,
and explore the stars
on a melancholy night?
