Lollapalooza 2003

Alright well I just got back from Lollapalooza 2003, and
let me tell you did that shit ever rock harder. I was
never more amazed to go to a concert more in my life; the
whole show was pretty much amazing excluding a Perfect
Circle and Audioslave. I was able to say that in my life I
was 10 ft. from Incubus and Jurassic 5, both which might I
add were fucking great. These 2 awesome influences in my
life, I was able to reach out and touch them it was the
greatest experience of my life. I don’t want to sound
cheesy or anything but it was the greatest thing that
could happen in my life, these bands were not only great
on stage but they have a huge impact on my life and even
my art. And let me tell you that was money well spent also
including my thunder cats shirt. But I totally had a great
time and I can’t wait to go back. I just wanted to say
that because of this concert it made me have a deeper
appreciation for all music, sitting there and watching all
ages rocking out to a hip-hop group made me amazed that ok
there are people who aren’t picky about music. And those
were the kind of people that I think are greatly
influenced and don’t pay much attention to it. There’s a
lot of music out there that I think a lot of people are
afraid either because their bent on a monotone world or
just don’t realize that the world doesn’t rotate on one
type of music, hence why many of you have noticed me
listening to a assortment of different types of music. One
day I’ll have the need to listen to hard shit from Jay-z
or Nas and later I’ll need to listen to some Korn or Bob
Marley. I think any kind of music is good it just depends
on the soft spot it hits in my brain. I can’t count the
number of times I have been teased at for the types of
music that I listen to and it saddens me that people cant
shut up for a second and give others a breathe of air. A
lot of kids base this world on one type of persona and
that is the person that they’ve created themselves,
thinking that the world must be the exact same. But think
about the difference that would make, sure people would
get along better but then you think of the things we
wouldn’t have if people didn’t go out of there way to
create a proto-culture of all kinds. I wouldn’t be able to
sit here listening to Bob Marley and write to you the
things spoiling my mind. There’d be no Jimmi Hendrix, Al
Kooper, Tupac, Marylin Manson, Van Morrison, Beastie Boys
or Incubus for that matter! And I can honestly guarantee
you that someone close to you may never exist if it
weren’t for music. It’s something that plays a vital role
in ones life and I completely agree, I wouldn’t be able to
draw the way I do if it wasn’t for the great range of
music out there. I wouldn’t be alive if the words of an
artist didn’t have an impact on my life. Just now while
writing, I just went from listening to Korn to Atmosphere,
because each of those artists have there own purpose on my
life. When I was at Lollapalooza I was amazed at the huge
amount of diversity in not only the music but the people
there too. You had a kid who spent his allowance on a new
Jay-Z CD a week ago, a person who spends her weekend at
the Saturday market, someone who head bangs every time a
Korn song comes on and all of these people gathered in the
same place. I know that if I listened to one genre of
music I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I wouldn’t be
able to express the art I draw or the words I write
specifically if it wasn’t for everything I have run into
in my life, it doesn’t go for just music but the many
people I met have influences on the type of person I am.
Any other way and I might as well be dead because I know
there’s no other way to live this life then my way. I am
totally grateful that I was able to experience this and I
didn’t come back a changed man (for the exception of my
hair color) but a better man.

Cheers,
Alex

PS. Thanks to those who are reading my journal, I think
I'm gonna settle down on my poetry for a bit, think I
crammed this full of it. Anyways I'll keep updating this
with more of my thoughts (as entertaining as that is).
