my stupid mouth
2003-06-17 14:59:27 (UTC)

Oh, happy day

i finally got my books for the summer program in the mail.
there's actually not as much reading that needs to be done
beforehand as i thought there would be. i have to
read 'mere christianity' by c.s. lewis, 2 dialogues by
plato, and 2 greek tragedies by sophocles. the c.s. lewis
book looks really good; hopefully, the others won't be as
bad as i'm expecting them to be. but i'm worried because
they sent me a schedule of all the classes and which books
will be discussed at each, but they didn't send me all of
those materials...which leads me to think...that we will
have homework! we'll probably have to prepare readings for
the next day's classes or something. oh, no! what if we
have to *gulp* write papers? well, there are only 3 hours
of classes at the most each day, so i'm sure there's plenty
of time to do other things.

the dress code is insane! "Women should wear dress shoes
and loose fitting skirts (or dresses) with hemlines below
the knee. Blouses and tops should be loose and should have
sleeves and modest necklines. Slacks are not acceptable at
these times." "These times" refers to classes, meals, and
in the chapel. i guess i'm okay with all of that except
for the dress shoes because i love to wear flip-flops. it
looks like i need a major shopping trip pronto. and here's
the rest of it: "For sports, recreation, and casual wear:
Jeans and long, loose-fitting shorts are acceptable for
casual wear. Women should bring modest one-piece bathing
suits and a wrap for coming to and from the swimming
area." well, that eliminates any hootchies wearing little
string bikinis (although something tells me there won't be
any hootchies here in the first place). basically, that's
a stricter dress code than i had at my private catholic
school! like i said, i'm only upset about the dress shoes
thing.

then there is a list of activites that we'll be doing: a
hike to the Punch Bowls in the Los Padres National Forest
behind the College; shopping, sight-seeing, and a trip to
the beach in Santa Barbara; an evening concert at the
Hollywood Bowl; tennis and ping-pong. yes!!!!!! i love
ping-pong. but...tennis...i really do not like
tennis...maybe it'll be like gym at school, and we'll get
to choose between tennis and basketball. that would be
good. and then there will be a formal banquet and dance on
the last day. and it says something about an awards
banquet, which seems a little strange...

so now i'm getting more excited. i hope there are some
nice kids there...nice AND fun, preferably.
