Dr. ML King, Jr. had it RIGHT.

hehe, my friend, casey, wrote in his diary that i am
being a bigger poser than ever rite now.
i laugh at that.
i mean, who exactly am i posing as?? no one i kno. im my
own person and goddamn proud of it. i do, say, and wear wht
i want when i want regardless of whether er not its
the "in" thing, ya kno? and im not one of those frikkin
losers who does only wht no one else is doing simply bc its
NOT the "in" thing! i dont try 2 become just another
goddamn cliche or stereotype, and if i do, that would be MY
choice.
u kno wht word i am REALLY starting to hate? poser. think
about it. b4 a few years ago, almost no one said it. it wz
juss another word in the english vocab. but now all of a
sudden, its concidered a wicked huge insult and the biggest
reputation-ruiner you can think of.
back in the day (well, in 9th grade), i can remember how
i finally found a group of ppl, a clique that i fit into oh-
so-well. they were the "punks," bc the music most of them
happened to listen to wz punk rock, and they accepted
anyone as long as they were open-minded and friendly.
everyone there could wear whtevr they wanted and like
whtevr they wanted w/o worrying that they would be picked
on, excluded, and concidered a loser and a loner by
the "popular" ppl for not wearing the newest brandname
clothes. they could finally truely be themselves.
but sumthing changed b/w now and then. sum idiots
(the "new punkers") sumhow got 'control' of this clique and
now if you follow the crowd and wear mainstream stuff, they
call u a "poser" and that ur "trying to fit in." and now ur
labled, and everyone thinks down upon you bc ur not "being
urself." how do THEY kno who you truely are??
so now the "in" thing to do is whtevr the "out" thing is.
to be popular, ya cant do anything mainstream. that means
that ppl cant just be themselves. and that pisses me off.
im one of the originals in this clique, a dying breed,
and remember those old values we used to have and that we
lived by. we punks were the outcasts of that
stereotypical 'abercrombie-and-fitch' popular clique back
in middle school and we knew wht it felt like to not have
any friends bc u were forced to be a certain way that u
really werent. we know wht it means to truely "be urself."
i live by the idea that ppl can wear and listen to whtevr
they want, mainstream or not. its THEIR choice, and im not
selfish enuff to try 2 force MY tastes in whtevr on anyone
else. Freedom of Expression. thats wht this country is.
express, and let others express.
ya see, this is one of the reasons i hate teenagers. only
some adults understand that people should not be judged by
what they wear, what they listen to, or what they do and do
not like. they should be judged by the content of their
character.

and those that DO judge others according to those
superficial standards, have fucking shitty character.
