PAS- Physician Assisted Suicide

Today, in non-western cultures my teacher didn't feel like
doing anything constructive so she decided to talk, what
she does best. We started a discussion about PAS or
Physician Assisted Suicide...did patient's have a right to
kill themselves? Do doctors have the right to assist these
patients to kill themselves.
In oregon, right now, it is legal for patients who have
been diagnosed with a terminal illness and have less than 6
months to live to requested that...they are killed or put
out of their misery. One of the situations our teacher told
us of was an elderly woman who have lou-gerigh's
disease...which basically is a brain disease that shuts
down your entire body in a rapid fashion, one thing at a
time. This woman asked her doctor to give her a
prescription to kill herself. He thought that she was not
mentally capable of deciding such a decision. The woman's
daughter who was an RN, took her mother to a different
doctor who also declared that she was not mentally capable.
The RN took her mother to yet another physician who did
finally give in to her request for the lethal pills...the
woman died...
I argued that if that is what the patient wants...a
choice...just like abortion. This subject was brought up as
well, as many times it is in my class considering my good
friend stephine and I have much to say on these political
and medical subjects...but, she and I do not agree..at all.
She is pro-life, I am pro-choice. She believes that pro-
choice=pro-abortion=pro-death. I try constantly to explain
to her that that is not what it means...but she refuses to
listen just like my father. She and I, obviously disagreed
about PAS but just because we disagree about that kind of
stuff doesn't mean we disagree on everything.
Today, at school, was the talent show. Lets just say, there
is no talent in my school.
And, in the past few days, I have decided that I am going
to run for homecoming queen my senior year. I hope, and
even think, I have chance on winning. But, you never know.

13 days until I see Shane. I am so anxious to see him for
more than one reason. I miss him, so much. I love you,
Shane.
