Instant Reaction To 'Rules Of Attraction' (And No, Timekeeping Is Not A Strong Point Of Mine)

Copied From An Envelope I Wrote Last Night

I'll be straight. I won't shit anybody. I've seen better
films. Performances were good, especially van der Beek.
Much impressed with his (his intensity) was I. Seems like
a nice bloke from what I've seen of him, too. That's for
another day. A slow day.

It started with crappy backwards bits, that worked quite
well - clever focus changing & highlighting of people in
it. But then the rest of the films was just building up to
those bits, and there was never any real tension built up.
Maybe they gave too much away. maybe they didn't give
enough. Obviously, this left a film that, though it was
quite engrossing, left me feeling a little empty - as if
it didn't fulfil early potential - I suppose it didn't.

I'd give it 3 out of 5. Maybe an extra 1/2 for Shannon
Shossanon (sp.?) and maybe another 1/2 for a Fred Savage
appearance. Groovy, he was. As I say now, everyone else
was very impressed. Maybe just maybe, my standards are too
high, And maybe I wasn't fully open to the film, because I
was so dashed hot and uncomfortable, but I went in fine,
and I know from experience that I only notice that kind of
thing if I'm not really into a film. So, yes, good film,
but not quite what I wanted.

WILT? (At the time - Bruce Springsteen - The Wild, The
Innocent And The E-Street Shuffle.
