quiet ! ! !

brow wrinkled
anxiety high
feeling like i'm walking on a tight rope
clinging to the end of a thread
that machine humming away in the background
as i listlessly wander
restless ... malcontent
the droning never stops
a humm you can hear
~ sense ~
even when the sound is off
through the years i have always wondered
how can people watch it all day?

and now

i wonder more

the tele is on almost 24/7
always on the news
since september eleventh
report after report
abc .. nbc .. cnn
i don't even know all their names
and they say the same things
over and over
monotony of voices joining with that hum

it's driving me crazy

DON'T YOU PEOPLE EVER TURN THE TELE OFF?!?!
