What would you do with one day

I mean, seriously. My wife is going to be gone most of
Saturday this weekend. She's driving 3 hours to visit some
friends, probably an impromptu-style baby shower although
they were invited to the main baby shower mid-March.

Luckily, oh, ever-so-luckily, she has not asked me to
accompany her (i.e. drive both ways) to this little
gathering, leaving me with most of a Saturday to do with as
I please. There is still the off chance that she'll pull a
last-minute guilt trip for me to come, so it's not in the
bag. Even if she goes, she'll probably roll back in before
10:00 p.m. so no nightlife, but she'll be pulling out
probably pretty early.

So I'm going to have most of a day to myself. I imagine
she'll have a list of things she wants me to do while she's
gone. Probably a small list, and I'll probably clean the
shower since that's one of the things she can't do well
while pregnant. But still, we're probably talking 12 hours
of sweet freedom . . .

. . . within which I'll probably do very little. I mean,
what am I going to do, drive to Mexico? I'm going to swim
in the morning for exercise, but after that? I'll probably
be lucky if I leave the house. My only real friend around
here works mostly on the weekends so he won't be around to
do anything. How the fuck can you grow up in an area and
not have anyone to do something on a free Saturday with??
Beats the hell out of me.

I would love to find a basketball court full of aging slow
guys playing pickup basketball. That sounds about my speed
at this point. I could play through Neverwinter Nights. I
might get called to substitute in a bowling league. I feel
like Frank "The Tank"--"We're going to Home Depot, maybe
Bed, Bath & Beyond, I don't know, if we have time."

I ought to figure out somewhere to *really* go, something
to do.

Well at least I'm thinking about it early, I've got all
week.
