MOTHER could not bring herself to go to the market later
that day. Neither could I. But Paolo insisted that we go.
Especially me. To take my mind off a bit of things, as he

He did not really speak. He simply gathered his things and
left the house, lost in the maze of his thoughts. There
seemed to be no way out.
Finally Paolo convinced me to go to the market with him. We
picked up the baskets where we placed our crops and headed
to the market place.
It was a hot and dusty day like everyday. The sun continued
to rain its bright heat on us. But I found that I did not
need to shield my eyes.
