Crazy What You Could've Had
2. R.E.M. - Try Not To Breathe
It may have been '93, actually, but it came at the end of
the journey to my first ever foreign holiday - I can't
even think where it was now, it might have been Crete.
Wherever, it had no profound effect on me. I improved my
pool skills like every English boy does on holiday, and I
spent a lot of time acquiring burns on my shoulders that I
bear the freckles from to this day.
It was a long journey, especially when I'd never done it
before, didn't really want to be there and was so stupidly
tired having been awake pushing 24 hours (when it wasn't
the done thing) as we were driving through the
village...it was dark, and still, and then suddenly from
the front of the coach came Try Not To Breathe. I knew
AFTP by this point, and it was like a voice coming out of
the night to comfort me. It has a similar calming effect
now, though only in the dark. The whole album sounds
better curled up under the duvet. You know already how I
feel about Nightswimming, right?
