Writing... Journalism, Poetry, Stories

I love to write. I want to go to UT in Austin, Texas and
get a Masters in Journalism. I am studying journalism with
my high-school teacher Mrs. Tarrant. She's the best, she's
funny, and sweet.

Writing is a way of life. Poetry is something that comes at
the weirdest times. I have written many in class, in the
car, and anywhere I fell like it. You can see some of my
poems at http://www.allpoetry.com/getAuthor.cgi?id=2488.

Stories on the other hand take longer than poems, but are
just as important. They show what ever you are thinking it
goes on the paper. A story is like a dream, you just have
to stretch it until it make a novel, children's book, youn
adult story etc...

Journalism is one thing that becomes a job. There are four
types of journalistic writing. News stories, that inform,
feature stories, that entertain, editorials, that express
the opinion of the staff, and last but ceritanly not least
is columns, that express your opinion as a journalist. I am
a columnist all the way, but I have written at least one of
the other types.

A good way to think about writing is this poem that I wrote

Imagination
is the mind's
paintbrush.
All you have to do
is put it to paper.
A sea of darkness,
the scent of a freshly peeled orange,
a leather glove in your hands,
or the cacophony of the crowd.
Prove with words,
that you were there.
Imagination
is the mind's
paintbrush.
All you have to do
is put it on paper.

That poem was written in my English 1 class, and finished
in my Journalism class. It has a round about way of ending,
but it works. It is called: Paintbrush.
