Is it mine?

This from the NPR website:

"Opera is the only traditional performance art form with an
audience that is getting younger. And some Gen-X fans have
found the musical genre via the peculiar route of punk
rock. They're drawn by opera's high drama, high volume and
intellectual challenge."

This is quite interesting - I've always been drawn to opera
and in the last six years or so have become a full-blown
opera nut (though I was never into punk rock). It's been my
little "treasure," though I often tend to be somewhat
evangelical about it, thinking more people would like it if
they took the time to find out what it's about.

I read somewhere that, among opera singers, Maria Callas
seems to get the best response from people my age due to
her sheer passion, even though she didn't have the most
beautiful voice (some would say it is an ugly voice).
Listen to her; it's high-volume, blood-and-guts emotion and
some of the most intense singing I've ever heard. Plus -
she pays attention to the words. Reading the libretto while
listening made me appreciate her even more, listening to
how she acts as she sings, alters the colour of her voice
on certain words, etc. I love it.
