My Journey as a Writer

Well, this is going to be my attempt at keeping an online
journal as I write my first novel, "The Price of a Crown".
The intent of this journal is to show my journey in
becoming a published author in hopes that one day, after
becoming published, other writers may use it as a reference
to see how I did it, how long it took, and the trials I
went through to do it. First a bit about the novel:

I have been struggling to bring myself to write for some
time now, heck as I have the true writer's blood in me (at
least I think I do anyway) I am punching myself for not
writing at this very moment. Anyway I have been an avid fan
of the fantasy genre for some time now. As most aspiring
fantasy authors, my first read in the genre was (drumroll
please) The Lord of the Rings. Although these days, for any
writer to say that there love for the genre stemmed from
this series is becoming cliche, I truly did fall in love
with fantasy from reading Tolkien's masterpiece. From that
point, at the ripe young age of 15, I have had a deep
rooted love of fantasy and have since read many works of
fantasy literature. The truth about how I came to want to
write in the genre came from a totally different source
however. I was standing in the bookstore one day looking
for a new read when I stumbled upon what has now become one
of the most popular fantasy series being published today.
It was a novel by Terry Goodkind called "Wizards First
Rule". Although I have never read the book nor any other
novels in the Sword of Truth series, one thing struck me
when I read about the author. "Wizards First Rule" was his
first published novel. After seeing the success of the
series over the years one day I decided, heck if he can do
it, why can't I? Since I have humored myself with ideas but
one day one struck me and I have not been able to let it go
since. That is where I first knew I had to write "The Price
of a Crown". If it is the last thing I do in life I will
write this book. I may never get published but I need to
prove to myself that, yes, I can write it. Since toiling
over the idea and running it through my head about a
million times I had begun to get discouraged. After all
writing a novel can be very tedious and well, frankly it is
an humbling experience. Once you begin you start thinking
I'm going to screw it up. I can't keep this organized. I'm
going to lose track of who is who and why they are doing
what they are doing in the story. Since then I have decided
to stop making excuses for myself and begin writing. So far
I have a measley 17 pages of first draft completed. Now, I
don't feel as if I accomplish anything in a day unless I
write. Due to my extremely busy schedule it has
increasingly become harder and harder but I now know that
if I indeed want to make it as an author then I will have
to get this done. So there it is. That is the story up to
now. I will be updating this daily (hopefully) and I hope
that one day it can serve as both inspiration and guidance
for the writing process. I firmly believe in my heart that
I am talented enough to write this and get it published.
Now I have to go for the muse is barking at me from over my
shoulder.
