Ripples in the Water

This gone-unnoticed woman
has a routine.
She lives her life,
currently envied,
the past pushed away
because the past has only been
heartache--
the past has only been trouble

she's wearily living
hoping nothing goes
wrong
hoping the waters do not ripple
She asks for nothing
yet fate
over all other doors
picks hers
And her response:
avoids it
as is expected
until its icy cold
painful
hands wraps itself
around her slowly beating heart
and strangles until tears
pour out
and loud sobs echo
endlessly

She lives a simple life
never asks for trouble

So why--
WHY--
you sick twisted
fate--
WHY
must you make life
an unquenchable fire?
Something she can neither
escape
nor live in?

The pathetic excuse
of making her stronger
is tired and worn-out

She has lived long enough
She has suffered long enough

Let her waters remain calm
