Goodbye

a small brown leaf clings
tightly to a branch
of a tree
in a vain attempt
to hold on.
but the wind comes
and pulls the leaf
from the familiar tree
from the branch that the leaf
has loved
all its life.
the leaf falls
and flutters to the ground
hitting the cold
cruel ground.
