the never ending race

the race to be different is like the retarded olympics.
even if you win, you're still retarded. people who spend
their time coming up with ways to be different than
everyone else are actually emulating the actions of
everyone else they are trying to seperate themselves from.
they want to think that by acting differently they are
somehow seperating themselves from the crowd, but what are
the thoughts of the crowd? "i must be different" and since
they all think the same, is anyone actually any more
different than anyone else? do not get "being different"
confused with "being yourself". the only reason people
would confuse the two is because the way they are living
now is so fake and so far from their true selves that when
they hear "be yourself" they interpret it as "be different"
because they have no clue how to "be themselves" because
they have never experienced living that way. the race to be
different begins when we begin thinking that the things we
do/have define ourselves. actually it is completely the
other way around, we define the things we do/have. it is
the same as saying "the clothes do not make the man, the
man makes the clothes". although im certain plenty of
people would love to argue with me that the things you own
and how you act around the people that admire the things
you own have a direct impact on their impression of you,
and i would say of course they do if you allow yourself to
be defined by the thoughts of those people. the thoughts of
those people are not you. you are not defined by the
thoughts swimming around in someone's head. until you come
to realize that you might as well put on a number and join
the marathon, but remember no one stays out ahead of
everybody for long. everything is impermanent and is
changing constantly.
