I see a marigold,
Behind my closed eyes.
Bright, orange; a tiny sunburst,
To dot these velvet skies.

Now another has joined the first,
And merrily they en-twine;
Dancing on a field of black,
Beneath an arch of vine.

I sit and watch, for hours,
Their silent tete-a-tete.
They have no cares, no fears,
No worry o'er their fate.

And to these little flowers,
I must apologize:
I fell to sleep amidst their dance,
Seeming never more to rise.

But rise I did, rest assured,
And rest assured I did;
Knowing that when I awoke,
I would be a magic calm amid.
