Second entry

Right now I am watching "L'homme qui aimait les femmes" or
The Man Who Loved Women. It's one of my favorite movies.
It's in French with subtitles. I think language is such an
interesting subject. How is it possible that language can
change so drastically? We can no longer understand Anglo-
Saxon. Even Shakespeare is difficult to comprehend. Not
only do words and pronounciation change, but also word
order. For an example, Latin, the origin of our language,
you can put the subject and object anywhere in the
sentence. The doer of the action ends with -s and the
reciever ends with -m, so it doesn't matter where either is
placed in the sentence, they both mean the same. However in
English you can't say "Him see I", you must say, "I see
him." Even though, "Him" is an object and "I" is a subject,
if you put "Him" in the subject place, it is understood as
a subject. That's amazing to me. In french you must say "I
him see" or "Je le vois."
I wish I could discuss these things with my friends.
However, teenagers only discuss simple and unimportant
things. "Does my lipstick look okay?" or "Did you see the
new Harry Potter movie." No one ever askes, "Hey, where do
you think language came from?" Maybe this is why I have
such horrible luck with guys. I can't speak to them.
This is also why I like Ryan over Brandon. Ryan can talk
about the origin of language, but Brandon can only talk
about cheeseburgers. I must admit it was his child-like
views of the world is what first attracted me to Brandon.
During Physics class, Brandon will randomly
say "cheeseburger" or "monkey." I thought it was really
funny, but it's horrible to continue that forever. oh well!
I can't save the world.
