Well, how cool is recording..

Well, how cool is recording music in a studio?? The studio
we were in reminded me alot of the studio I saw Metallica
record in on the year and a half videos, so immediately I
was psyched. We set up Quinn's drum kit, then got Greg's
guitar amp stashed away in his little room. His amp was
still being repaired, so he had hired a Marshall tube amp.
It sounded pretty chunky, so he was happy.

My little room was the best room, it had this really cool
ambient lighting setup, downlights dimmed right down are so
sexy when you're trying to create a music feeling. So
everything was setup and all we had to do was start
recording. So we're all standing in this room, ready to go
with our headphones on so we can hear each other. The way
we were going to record was we'd do live takes for the bass
& drums (Greg would play to so we got the feeling for
everything). Problem 1 occured when we started to belt out
the first toon & I couldn't hear a thing in my headphones.
This went on all night, so I basically couldn't hear anyone
apart from Quinn, and I could only hear him because I was
standing right next to his drum kit. So I played for most
of the night blind (in a manner of speaking) which at the
time was OK coz I thought that I was going to be going back
and re-doing all the bass parts. But apparently no one
wanted to tell me that the bass parts we were going to have
on the CD were going to be live takes! Fuckers! So all the
parts (with the one exception of Animal which sounded
swell) sounded like dog's balls. So I was a bit stroppy
when I found out. This put a bit of a dampner on the whole
thing for a while. But everything turned out alright
because after Greg did his guitar tracks, I had a mini spit
about how shite the dying elephant noise sounded on Animal,
as well as the over all shite-ness of the Asylum bass part
sounded, so Darren (our sound engineer) said, "OK we'll re-
do the dying elephant, then have a crack at Asylum". Did
that, sounded fucking great, so Darren says, "the bass is
sounding really good, I want to do Angel Sunshine again."

WAZZA! So all up, all the bass parts (with the exception of
Animal coz I cracked that one like a motherfucker even
without hearing anyone else) were done the way I wanted to
do them anyway. Only one small bitch left... I wanted to re-
do the Asylum bass solo with the distortion and wah on, but
no-one wanted me to do it. Apparently they'll make it sound
good during the mix down, so we'll see won't we???
