My High School Days and First Summer of Freedom

I was not allowed to use the phone, or go out, or have
friends over. I couldn't get my license, couldn't dance,
and couldn't close my bedroom door. I could drink one can
of soda a day. I had to ride the bus to school. Yeah,
this sounds terrible, but I did have it good. I had a
lunch to eat every day. A warm bed to sleep in. I had my
own room. I had a nice desk, and I had a word processor for my
writing. I had lots of books to read and some good music. I had a
roof over my head. The only thing I didn't have was teenage
normalcy. (SP!) It was pretty horrible. I think it has really
ruined me. I am trying hard to get myself back to normal.

I graduated in three years, to get the Hell out. I left home at the
ripe age of 17. I was accepted at a top ten university about 30
miles from home. As was my sister. We got a place together on the
campus and began the journey of freedom.

Right away I met a guy. Brian was his name. He was a high school
drop out, druggy, alcoholic. (Oh, I forgot to mention that my dad is
a severe alcoholic and left us many times. He missed my high school
graduation because he was at the bar.) I liked this guy though. He
moved in with me the day I moved out. I thought that putting him on
the lease was the best thing to do. WRONG! My landlord called my
mom and she threw me out. So, here I am, 17 years old, homeless with
this guy I barely know. My sister got kicked out too, so we got
seperated. Luckily, he had a car. It was a red, 1977 Malibu. It
ran, which was all we needed.

My mom drained my college money out of my account. So, here I was,
with a case of Mountain Dew, a box of tampons and some Ibuprofen.
That is it. Not even a change of clothes. Oh, I had my ID too. No
money, no checkbook, nothing. My mom took my apartment keys.

We headed out in his car. We lived in corn fields. I stole clothes
from stores to have something to wear. He taught me to smoke weed.
He took me to my job at McDonalds every day. My boss gave me extra
uniforms and free food. We slept on the hood of Brian's car in the
corn field, under the stars. Good thing it was summer.

Finally, his mom took me in. She gave me clean clothes, money to buy
underwear, and a nice place to sleep. She even gave me some gramma
pajamas to sleep in and made me promise to sleep on the couch. My
mom found out somehow that Brian's mom took me in and she called his
mom and yelled at her. Brian's mom hung up on my mom! My mom was so
angry because somebody took me in, and she wanted me to live on the
street and be miserable.

Then one night, I gave Brian my virginity on his couch. His mom had
no clue. I thought I'd wake up the next day feeling like a different
person. All I felt was sore. I was so happy though that I gave him
my virginity because he was such a wonderful man. I cared about him
a lot.

Eventually after signing a ton of stupid forms my mom came up with,
she let me move back in. I let Brian stay with me, but didn't try to
put him on the lease again. I wasn't that stupid. Then summer was
winding down. I was ready to start my freshman year of college.
