Political thoughts...

As a political independent I find the election this year to
be of special historical note. I hope to spend more time
studying the political landscape, we will see... The
challenge is to stay up to date while traveling. I think
this will ultimately have to be done with a shortwave radio.

My news has been largely C-Span, BBC, CNN, and FOX when I
have access to TV, but day in and day out my up to the
minute coverage is from my alpha pager. The pager is out
of service right now and I have to scramble to make up the
difference.

Things I am watching on the political front:

(1) The practice of politicians to announce that they have
won without waiting for a concession speech. It happened
twice last night. Something seems to be going on here and I
find the behind the scenes activity to be as interesting as
the election itself.

(2) The press kept an ear to the ground for what the White
House was hearing about election returns. I had not seen
this before and if it IS new, then Bush has trumped the
media. No one is talking about it. I wonder if they will
later.

These two things got my attention. They were both
departures from anything I have noticed before.

Gray Davis won in California, I do not see this as a
blessing for California. Hmmm...

As an aside, in politics or on any other topic, I am not
interested in conflict, other than taking the necessary
steps to heal it. There is much good work to be done.

I am at Dave and Gayle's home. From here I fly back to New
York City.

This sun is shinning after almost three weeks of clouds and
misty rain or so I hear.

Nile virus is a concern at Pilot Point as Gayle says many
horses in the area have died.
