Sam Al-Jafari's Elective Diary
Well, I set off at 7pm on Thursday from Manchester, and it
is now 4.30am UK time on Saturday. That's about 30 hours of
travel. After flying for 13 hours with a 2hour stop in
Frankfurt, I decided to get straight out of Bangkok and
head south. So I ended up spending an extra 13 hours on a
bus, 2 hours on a ferry and 30 mins in a pick up truck to
reach my destination Lamai Beach , Ko Samui. It isn't a
journey I recommend, although I did manage to blag the best
sea on the bus and get some good sleep (with the aid of
tranquillisers). I think I might save the hassle on the way
back and get the one hour flight back to Bangkok.
Anyways, it's not all bad. I manage to get a free bottle of
champagne from the air stewardess who spilt red wine on my
$5 t-shirt (after she cleaned it!!!), and I've found a
bungalow on the beach for $2.40 a night.
I haven't had much of a chance to look around yet, but the
beach is amazing. Very few people, and beautiful weather.
I've just had a thai green curry and beer all for $1.50
right on the beach.
I'm going to go and explore now and maybe hire a motorbike.
I'm looking forward to a good night out tonight.
