Yourself Or Someone Like You

College vs. University = Ridiculous

Today was yet another awakening day for me. I am enduring
my first year of university and my fourth of actual post-
secondary education.

At this point in the year, we are all dealing with the
repercautions of midterms. I have been at the point in my
life where I felt that test and assignments were so
important and they are all that mattered. I also worried
constantly about my professors and their opinions of me. I
would work so hard in hopes that they would recognize my
efforts. For the most part, my efforts did not go
unnoticed. However, now that I am in university my view is
much different. I have noticed at this level of education
that everything intensifies times ten! Students care a lot
more about their marks and what the professors think of
them. When in reality at the university level teachers do
not even know who you are, let alone attempt to find out.
Also, a common trend among the professors is that they
dislike marking assignments, but cram as many in as
possible.

Throughout my three years at college and early experience
at university I have reached a point where I simply say "to
hell with it"... This means, to hell with the assignments,
worrying about what other think of me and stressing over
major tests. It is not that I don't care about them, its
just that I don't bother fussing over them. When it's done,
it's done. I mean why should we as students stay up half
the night pouring our blood, sweat and tears into something
that will be critiqued in a matter of half an hour. It's
just not worth all the stress.

People need to relax and enjoy life at this age. Why put
yourself through all the pain for a mere mark on a page,
which will not be remembered in five years time. I remember
stressing over an assignment in my first year of college, I
look back on it now and say why did I make myself feel bad
about this grade? I am truly better than that and am very
grateful to be. I saw so many discouraged faces in one of
my classes as midterms were handed back. I didn't get an
A but I did do well. So many people were kicking
themselves over it, which makes NO SENSE!! Again, life is
to be enjoyed and I think that this type of message needs
to be passed on to other students and we need to support
each other, rather than compete with each other over stupid
test scores.

What is life worth? It’s priceless and in simple terms it’s
an opportunity. Why let these minor details take over our
lives?? If you didn't do so well on something, fine! MOVE
ON! Recognize where you need improvement, but do not spend
more than five minutes pondering it. Worrying about it will
only get you to one place in life and that is nowhere!!!
