love and its supposed objectives

flipped through the pages of an old brown notebook. this is
what i discovered scrawled across three pages, written a
few years ago during troubled times:

if you really love someone, you wouldn't pass up the chance
to see her...in fact you would even make every effort for
that chance to come to be. if you really love someone, you
wouldn't leave her hanging. you would even memorize her
mobile phone number so that you can contact her anytime
even if your mobile is already out of battery. that's why
you have memorized her number, so that you can borrow other
people's phones and text her through there.

if you really love someone, you wouldn't pull the plug of
the phone off the wall without telling her just because
your cordless phone is going into low battery and you have
to plug another phone in. you would tell her first that you
are going to change phones, say goodbye properly and then
pull the plug.

if you really love someone, you wouldn't forget your
monthsary. and you would most definitely never sleep the
day away just because you slept at seven in the morning on
that day. because if you really love someone, you would not
even sleep at seven in the friggin bloody morning when you
know dang well that you are supposed to meet your special
someone on that day.

when you love someone, you wouldn't brush her off with cold
answers and act bored in your conversations. you would
never want to hang up the phone because you love hearing
the tone of her voice and the music in her laughter. if you
really love someone you would participate in conversations
and not answer questions with one word answers.

if you really love someone you wouldn't go out with people
whom you know will make you stay out late.

if you really love someone, you would comfort her when
she's sad, calm her down when she's mad and not ignore her
tantrums saying that it's stupid and that it's no big deal.

if you really love someone, you would swim across the
widest ocean, climb over the highest mountain, and jump
over the deepest hole just to be near her.

and if you really love someone, you would give up your
life, give up heaven and hell and everything else dear to
you just to see her smile.
