Messages not heard

"Will the angels fly tonight? Now who can predict on my day
of decease, will I fly with the angels or burn with the
beasts?"

Messages not heard. They are everywhere, ya know. The
little things you don't hear everyday that are being
screamed at you with desperation. What messages are you
not hearing? What about that guy you tease so bad at work,
to the point of humiliation? Do you hear him
saying "Please kill me, god"? Do you hear the homeless man
you scolded for asking for just a little help wondering why
his god has left him in such dire straights? What about
the little girl who just wanted someone to love her? When
she slits her wrists, are you gonna hear her crying out
those simple little words: "Help me"
When will we start hearing those cries? When will I start
hearing the cries of the people around me that need help?
When will you hear those same cries? Messages not heard.
They are what defeat our greatest ability, a talent that
many have and yet do not nurture. Our compassion. True
compassion. Compassion is defeated when we do not listen
to the cries of those too scared or too proud to make them
audible to our physical ears. My own compassion suffers
when I do not stop and think of my own actions in life and
consider the consequences of what I do. Does yours? My
compassion is bolstered when I do something for someone
that was in need, because I realize that I helped to make
the world a better place for at least one person, and that
continuing such actions might help another's compassion
awaken from whatever depths it has receded into. Has
someone done such for you? Have you done so for someone
else? Our search for ourselves is invariably within and
without. Our search for each other invariably reveals the
truth to ourselves. By the time we find ourselves, though,
will it be too late? And when will we get over the fear of
finding each other? When we do, maybe we'll finally start
hearing those unheard screams and pleas for help.
