class

after a gruesome and tiring session of kickboxing, i went
to the locker room to get ready for my shower.

i heard two women talking, one of them sounding incredibly
nice.

G1 (incredibly nice one) : oh i love your blouse! where'd
you get that?
G2: i got it from liz claiborne actually. do you like it?
G1: i love it! hey did you see my picture in the magazine?
G2: which magazine is this?
G1: it's called portfolio. didn't you see me? i was wearing
a white dress.
G2: no i didn't. hmm i should look into it.
G1: oh hey hold on. i have to call my chauffer cuz i have to
meet up with someone soon.
G2: all right.

anyway...afterwards i heard G1 -- or incredibly nice girl --
talking to her chauffer on her mobile phone.

G1: where the hell are you? what?! i can't believe you're
still there! that's so far away! what do you mean
there's heavy traffic? you better get your dumb ass down
here as soon as possible you hear me? what? you're
sorry?! just get here!! *click*

so yeah..her 'nice voice' disappeared completely when she
talked to her chauffer...apparently someone who's not in
her 'social standing'. it saddened me.

it was not her angry tone that saddened me, but it was the
way she talked to him. her voice changed completely, and
she sounded like she was doing the chauffer a huge favor
just by talking to him.

social class pains me. i hate it that people are only nice
to people who are as 'rich' as they are, or as 'glamorous'
as they are. i hate it that people look down on chauffers,
on janitors, on construction workers, on farmers, and those
other 'low class' jobs. i hate it. they are honest
hardworking people. what is there to look down on? just
because it's a manual job and not a thinking job doesn't
mean they are dumber than those business executives.

why must there always be a division of people? why must
there always be superior people? inferior people? why can't
there just be equality? after all, we were all created
equal. we were all made equal...

i'm sleepy. i just can't stop thinking of this
conversation...and as much as i know absolute equality is
impossible, i still wish and long for it with all my heart.

perhaps that is one reason why i like australia. australia
has an *egalitarian* society where almost everybody is
treated equally and hardly anybody is looked down upon.

communists, socialists... someone said they are morons cuz
their dreams and ideals are impossible.

i am a moron.
