In the mind of me

Cultural Awareness B.S.

Give me a break. My school is so PC, thank goodness that
I am graduating tomorrow. I have had four years of being
yelled at that being a Christian means that I am not
tolerant of things like racism and homosexuality. I think
they should turn that finger right back around and they
should tolerate me being a Christian. To set the record
straight for those of you who don't know me, I have
friends that are gay and I live in the ghetto! How can I
be homophobic and racist? I have friends (key word here,
notice I didn't use aquaintance) that are gay. I am
teammates with black, mexican, asian, etc people. They
are my friends. (The reason why I don't say African
American or Asian American is because I figure that most
of the people I talk about are American. If they went
back to their native country, they would feel like an
outsider. I don't call myself Irish/Portuguese American,
I call myself white. If people have a problem with that,
they can just lighten up for all I care.)

But back to the point of my PC school. Not only are we
graduating on a small, ghetto field, but they are now
saying that wearing flowers of any kind are not allowed -
they take away from the 'uniform.' However, if you want
to wear a decorative cloth wrap that helps you identify
with your culture that is allowed. I don't see how a
cultural wrap would go along with a uniform anymore than
flowers would. Then, the AP said that it has always been
like this. Well, I know that the last two graduations had
numerous kids with leis of flowers and money. (Too bad
mine won't have money...)

Well, I only have to put up with this stinkin school for
so much longer. I hope that this school has prepared me
enough for the real world and college. Somehow I feel
like I am getting the short end of the deal...
