so i have a question

DAY: babysat andrew..what a sweety, i don't think he likes
me though, oh well good money, and studied for finals
really fun.

THOUGHTS: today i was thinking about cultural exagerations.
It is a touchy topic and i feel somewhat
disrespectful/racist/mean even thinking about it but no one
who really knows me will ever read this cept maybe elana
who is in london at the moment, oh hunny i miss you! anyway
i was thinking about how african american, ok black people
exagerate the idea that white people are racist against
them. this may have been true in the past and it may true
with a few people now but with the masses it isn't an issue
at all. Many black kids in our school i find hard to
believe that they ever think of anything else. tommy white
for example asks me EVERY day if i don't talk to him
because he's black, that is absolutely insane, and offesive
on my part. i'm not friends with him because he is
obnoxious and that would stand whether he was black or
white or asain or european. i don't care at all. anny
culnane i love the girl, she's black, i'm no racist, this
is evident. then when a black man and a black woman won
best actor and best actress at the oscors and it was a huge
deal i was soemwhat perplexed because it shouldn't have
been an issue at all, it shouldn't even have been notable.
In this day an age that should not be at all surprising.
then i have a TON of jewish friends but they also do the
same thing. it isn't so much that they think people dislike
them because of their religious preference, it is that they
connect a lot of things to judiasm. i've heard the books
tuesdays with morrie as a very "jewish" book. well hmm what
makes it a jewish book? the fact that the characters in it
are jewish? was the author jewish? i don't get it. Just
because the character in a book were a Unitarian
Universalist who doesn't actually go to church or the
author happened to be of that denomination doens't mean at
all that i would say its a very UU book. or if the
characters and the author were catholic i wouldn't say it
was a very catholic book. that sounds stupid which is the
reason i responded to that certain person's remark in this
manner. the torah could be called a very jewish book, i
will grant you that, but tuesdays with morrie's? cmon
folks.
I think it is great when someone is very interested in
their religion or heritage but i don't understand why
someone would entirely define themselves by that. I would
not define myself as a swedish/german/english unitarian
universalist white girl. so why would someone completely
define themselves as jewish or black? it just isn't
something i can comprehend. i would define myself asa
passionate, diligent, loving, curious, beautiful girl. (wow
i'm optimistic today) isn't that better? those things can
apply to everyone!
dont' get me wrong here, i'm not communist, i'm not bitter
because i can't be accepted in the jewish club or the black
club i just don't see the need for these definitions. i
think the idea in the book the giver is beautiful and if it
worked it would be amazing but i still wouldn't be
satisfied because i would desperately crave variety. enough

beautiful people: my grandpa
