A Sucker?

Yeah, I'm a sucker. You betcha. I do dumb stuff all the
time. One really dumb thing comes to mind. You might even
know what I'm talking about, if you know me really well.

But that's not something I want to write about,
particularly in a "public" diary. (At least, not until
there are enough posts that one post has a low probability
of being hit, eh?)

I've ruled out this diary as a means of making news about
life in China widespread. I would have to erase my last
post and probably a couple of my upcoming posts, and,
really, then I'm not being honest. (Plus, I bet these
things are obnoxious to print, if I have a large quantity
of posts.)

I'm talking to Denis on AIM now. I just finished talking
to Ryan, who, I think, caught what I was implying to him.
And Denis and I are talking about love (oh, heavens, no,
not between us!). I think that you have to work at it.
He'd like to think you don't have to. I think he knows
better, but he'd like to think that. I ALSO think, and
here's where some people disagree, that love can grow. I
think people can know each other for a long time and then
end up in love just as easily (actually, more easily) than
they can meet and just "be in love."

Then we were just talking about "What's the point?" Here
was my analysis (based on the fact that loving someone and
being loved back is really, truly wonderful, and any other
eventuality--not feeling love, or feeling unrequited love--
stinks).

"And (this'll make you ill) let's draw up a punnet square:

R r

R RR Rr
r Rr rr

Where R is "love," r is "no love."
You have a 50% chance of feeling love.
If you feel love, there's a 50% chance that the other
person will.
That's 25% of the time. Good odds. Better odds than you
have guessing on the GRE. And they tell you always to
guess."

Ha ha. That was awful. Denis says I'm "a nerd par
excellence." :) (I wasn't serious. If you don't see the
flaw in my logic, go read it again.)

Giving this a title was a bit misleading. As, I bet, will
be the case with about all my posts, this not so much on a
topic as it is a wandering path of thought. There are
brambles along the way. Some poison ivy. Some nice
birdbaths, too, I hope, but I don't know.

Rereading that makes me laugh. That was the point. Read
all you like, but I'm writing to amuse [, express,
enlighten, or otherwise affect] myself.

I don't feel like writing more. That's all for now.
