Making Effective Decisions

The Top 10 Tips To Making Effective Decisions

1. Have confidence in your own judgment.
Know that you are capable of making the best possible
decision at any given time.

2. Develop a mechanism/process for changing bad decisions.
Keeping your eye on the long-term is not always
possible or practical. Make the best decision you can given
the information you have available. If it turns out to be a
dud, regroup and change it.

3. Realize that everything is a compromise.
No decision is ever going to be without it's down
side. Practice win-win for as many as possible.

4. Know that nothing is ever totally logical.
Even the best analytical reasoning is not always going
to produce the most logical results.

5. Have a vision.
Developing a picture in your mind's eye of what you
want to achieve makes the decision-making process easier
and more focused.

6. Be flexible.
Again, compromise what you can without letting go of
the vision and the outcomes.

7. Have knowledge of your field, business, or profession.
Knowing the rules of the game gives you a heads-up;
you can then decide to follow, break, modify, or ignore
them and put your own spin on things.

8. Have intense concentration.
Focus is important to get from point A to point B.
Very few people will follow a scatterbrain idea without
focus.

9. Focus on the right things.
Getting hung up on insignificant details are energy-
zappers and time-wasters. Delegate what you can, then take
care of the important stuff.

10. Remember that you don't have to reinvent the wheel.
Learn from the mistakes of others, listen to people
who have been through the same thing, trust your intuition.
And finally, be courageous and go for it!
