Connections

On the way to work, all of my travel connections clicked
perfectly. Of course, the result was that I arrived at the
hospital absurdly early, on the order of 40 minutes before
my usual arrival time.

This is disgusting.

As remarkable as it seems, I have come to rely on the time
spent in transit to sort of "psych" myself up. It's the
time when I look over my to-do list on my PalmPilot, make
additions and check off items as necessary, and get myself
in the right headspace to go and do some coding on the
medical records database. I also often will read a bit on
whatever book I have with me in my bag--I go through about
three paperbacks a week on a good week--or read the paper
and do the crossword puzzle.

Yet there I was, at work, WAY too early and somewhat
unprepared for the day. The only other person in that
early, Jill, made some cheery comment about getting an
early start on the day.

I really don't like cheery morning people. They're like
yipping little lap-dogs.

One of the worst things about dealing with medical records
is checking accuracy. When I find a mistake, such as a
misfiled piece of paper, I can't just correct it and go. I
have to pull all of the related charts and refer it to the
doctors and admin assistants who are responsible. This
means I'm getting stuff back haphazardly at best, things
that I really need to enter in order to stay on schedule.

I keep telling myself I should have stayed in school for a
Master's Degree. I'd still be there, but at least I
wouldn't have to sit in a little room in the basement
playing with files.

Grrr!!! Back to the filing ...
