Dave's Mental Meanderings
Poem - "The Island"
The sunrise brings a brand new day
To scavenge through the sand,
Wasted years and senseless fears
Are all you’ve got in hand.
So desolate this island seems,
Its beaches are your moat,
A mile at most off the coast,
But you can’t even float.
You sit all day at water’s edge
In self-deluding thought,
Your mind and heart, now torn apart,
Don’t seek what they once sought.
The water throws your image back
Upon your jaded eyes,
But you don’t care, you’d rather stare
Up at the stormy skies.
Doubt succumbs to hopelessness
As sunset slips away,
A pebble tossed, reflection lost,
Another wasted day.
