Dante 12/97 - 3-27-02

Our kitty passed away today. He was a black munchkin cat
that we adopted when he was 5 1/2 weeks old. Let me
clarify, he was bred a munchkin but did not have the short
leg gene. He was a beautiful cat.

A couple of weeks ago, Dante started really peeing in
places that were unacceptable. He has always peed in
closets and in the towel closet, but I dutifully cleaned it
up and made a mental note to close the doors. Lately though
he would pee on the tile, right in front of his box. Or
right in front of the stairs. It was so upsetting. Since we
are moving, I made the decision that we were going to have
to take him to the pound. The vet said that maybe his
urinary tract was bothering him and we should try treatment
again. I decided to try a herbal supplement that has always
worked before and I started giving him those again. He
perked up and we thought things were good. He would even
ask to go out to the garage to use the box. I knew that he
would have to go before we moved though.

In the last couple of days, he seemed angry and unhappy. He
didnt want to come out of the garage. Sadly, I hadnt pet
him in a few days. Last night, I put out the other cat for
the night. Dante was curled up around the water bowl and he
looked up at me. I thought he looked tired or even sick but
I didnt think too much about it.

This morning, I went out to get something out of the deep
freezer and Dante was dead. He was lying on his side,
stretched out like he always sleeps, but he was gone. The
other kitty gratefully let me bring him in the house.

I had to pick up his body. I put him in a box and sealed it
with tape. I bagged that and the city will pick him up.

I told the kids when they came home. Todd (7), was so sad.
He cried big alligator tears. We hugged and I cried too.
Ryan seemed like he really didnt care one way or the other.
He has never liked Dante and Dante never liked him. Hunter
didnt seem to understand.

*more tomorrow, Im getting really tired.
