driving with a lust for life

Made some progress on my painting in photo. I'll have to do
some sort of wash on the whole thing, get the shaded regions
to flow together better. However, I'm finally getting the
tones right, and it's starting to come together.

We're in a fix with the QuizBowl state tournament; transit
is getting to be a problem. I was figuring on driving down
to the tournament, since the car will hold three passengers
and a driver quite comfortably. My mother isn't too keen on
the idea, however. So it looks like someone's parent will
have to drive. Of course, no one's parents are available on
that weekend, which created the whole need for me to drive.

The musical is still in the clusterfuck stage, contributing
to my growing disillusionment. We can't seem to figure out
how to get anything done except choreography. Every time we
rehearse, I end up thinking about how much better it would
be to not be there. Ah well, even if it's shit, who really
cares? It's just a high school production.

So nothing has really happened related to the events of last
Thursday, but I've spent some time thinking about it. Maybe
it's just as well that things didn't work out. Really, the
last thing I need right now is extra commitment. My life is
quite crowded, and dating would complicate the living hell
out of damn near everything.

So I'm going to stick to a "just friends" approach, since it
is not only a whole lot more likely to work out, but has the
added bonus of being a whole lot more convenient. Now lets
just hope that things won't be awkward.

In other news, I was accepted to Case Western Reserve
University and awarded a $21,000 scholarship. Can you say,
"roxxor?" This gives me the satisfaction of not only being
accepted to another college, but also of having disproved a
fellow student's assertion that my gaming essay would get me
rejected based on my interest in emulators. Ha!

I've been listening to the Trainspotting soundtrack while
writing this post, and I must say it is a great album. It's
inspirational in some ways, much like the book and movie.
Perhaps I'll follow Iggy Pop's example, however dubious it
may be, and develop a Lust for Life.

This is Dave, signing off.
