Chess and Political Dynamics

OK, steaming my brain yielded NO results, in terms of the
problems that needed solving in the last entry. However, I
did write an e-mail to Leticia asking if she knew of anyone
who could play for me on Monday...and she said that her
previous plans were cancelled, and she was available!
Extreme rejoicing took place! I jumped up out of my chair,
leapt onto the desk, did a little tap routine to the best
of my ability, and chanted Kum-Ba-Yah at the top of my
lungs. Then I did cartwheels down the stairs, and fetched a
banana from the kitchen. Because I was hungry. Actually, I
didn't really do all that. The bit about the banana was a
lie. And the tap dancing too...but in ANY event...YAY times
a billion! I have an accompanist! JOY TO THE WORLD, THE
ACCOMPANIST HAS COME, LET ANN HER SONGS...EMPLOY! Leticia
is a life saver!
But speaking of brain...was I even speaking of brains?
Well, let's pretend I was. Oh yea, the steaming of my
brain. Brain. Which leads me through the natural thought
progression...brain...head... hair...to the ultimate
destination...that I think I will be getting a haircut
tomorrow. It's about that time I think. I am in an asthetic
rut, and need to get out of it somehow. A haircut seems
like a good place to start.
So...I hear a rumor that Bush and Blair are up for the
Nobel Peace Prize. Someone sent me an e-mail protesting
against their nominations. I think it's stupid to protest
against their nominations. And if you are going to protest,
at least give us an idea about who YOU think deserves the
prize. I understand the view that America has done many
terrible things in terms of international affairs, but I'll
be damned if there has been ANY country in the world who
has done a better job of keeping peace. People who are
quick to complain about human rights and infringements on
other countries domestic policies, don't seem to understand
the tragic situation the world is in, and specifically that
AMERICA is in. Peace today, does not come from everyone
just getting together, holding hands, and promising not to
kill one another. International dynamics are far too
volatile, and if you give hostile countries an inch, they
WILL take a mile. And with today's arsenal of biological
and nuclear weapons, the consequences of being passive are
far to terrifying. There is a delicate balance of power
that rules everyone today, and politicians have to make the
best of it. Narrowminded activists who are so quick to
judge the actions of Bush and others, need to look beyond
the obvious injustices, and realize that military might is
a very important tool in CREATING PEACE. That's why nuclear
disarmament is so difficult! No sane party is every going
to lay down all their weapons, when they can't trust the
other party to do the same. Now, I am not saying that the
American government is always right, and I am not denying
that horrible wrongs have been inflicted on other countries
BY the American government, but we need to also think about
the RIGHTS that have come about because of American
intervention. Sorry if I sound uber peeved, but the morons
who think that the way to achieve world peace is through
hugs and smiles need to knock off their fluffy-bunny
mentality and grow up. And that's all I have to say about
that right now. Phew.
On a lighter, less political note, I watched Luis paint a
chess board on a table today. That was fun. I actually
forgot where I parked my car today too. That was not as fun
as watching Luis paint a chess board on a table. I had
parked behind the school, and was utterly confused when I
couldn't find my car in the usual spot. So instead of
continuing to look for my car, I decided to walk to the
theatre instead, figuring that the location of my vehicle
would eventually reveal itself somehow. And it did. I had
dinner with Luis, at Thai Time. The girls there are
HILARIOUS. One of them wants me to find her a skirt, just
like one I wore the other day when we were there. Problem
is, I bought it in Sweden...I will try though...I should be
able to find at least a smiliar one. OK, sleepy time.
