Dare

Here is another poem I'm thinking of inserting into the
final two spots on the list. It's called "Dare".

how dare I
challenging things
asking questions
forcing an answer

how dare I
face the system
a system that exists for thousands of years
how dare I challenge that is history

how dare I
be so arrogant
as to think I know a better way
then the one that exists

How dare I
say the things I say
spitting in the face of all that's good
saying things are wrong

I say
How dare you
try to shut me up
for asking questions and challenging your thoughts

I dare
because I wish to know

I dare
because I am curious

I dare
because I need to know

I dare
because I want something better

I may offend you
challenge your beliefs
question your self justifications

I dare to ask these things
because I want to know
what you really think about it

Why is Christmas Christian?
Why do we follow tradition?
Why do we do this?
Why do we do that?

I dare to ask
because I wish to know the truth
hate me for that if you must
but please, don't shut me up because your afraid to ask
yourself

dare to answer
see what you discover
by testing all things
and holding fast to what is good

that's why I dare
I want to know
I wish to know
I need to know

because without testing things
we become complacent
and forget why we do things
making them obsolete

so I dare
because I choose to not be afraid
because I cannot do otherwise
but try to live in the truth the best I can

so in the end
knowing that the truth must be tested
how can I not do otherwise
but dare?
