The same three trim levels are available
on 3.0 TDI versions, but all trims with
the diesel engine get an S line exterior
package that includes distinctive front
and rear bumpers, a modified front
grille and headlight washers. Models
equipped with the 4.2-liter V8 engine
come standard with 20-inch wheels and
are available only in the Prestige trim.

Stand-alone options include fancier 20-
or 21-inch wheels, a towing package, a
cold weather package (which includes a
heated steering wheel and heated rear
seats), a panoramic sunroof, extra
interior leather coverage and four-zone
climate control. The 4.2 can also be had
with second-row captain's chairs, a
14-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound
audio system, an adaptive air suspension
and adaptive cruise control.

Driving Impressions

Thanks to the mountains of torque and hp
generated by the twin-turbo V8, the
mammoth 2009 Bentley Brooklands can
accelerate with the authority of a
sports car. The suspension does a worthy
job of isolating the cabin from road
noise and pavement irregularities, while
the steering provides a good amount of
feedback to the driver. When it's pushed
down a twisty road at an enthusiastic
pace, there is still little doubt that
you are piloting a vehicle that's nearly
3 tons, but the Brooklands maintains
enough composure to minimize the drama.

About US Online America Group :Interior
Design and Special Features

Thanks to some much-needed improvements
last year, the Charger's cabin features
materials of pleasing quality and simple
controls. The styling is on the bland
side, however. The seats are very comfy,
and those included with the road/track
package and in the SRT8 provide lots of
snug lateral support. The Charger's
large size and long wheelbase translate
into a generously sized cabin with
plenty of rear legroom. Unfortunately,
the Charger's sloping roof line makes
rear-seat access more challenging than
in other sedans, and rear headroom is a
bit less than normal as well. The trunk
can hold 16 cubic feet of luggage, an
average figure for a large sedan.

Driving Impressions

With an abundance of torque and
rear-drive power reaching the asphalt,
the V8-powered 2009 Dodge Charger R/T
delivers grins and giggles in equal
measure for enthusiasts who appreciate
neck-snapping thrust as well as the
extra utility of a four-door-sedan body
style. However, most of that fun is had
in a straight line, as even in SRT8 and
R/T forms, the Charger's light and
uncommunicative steering doesn't provide
much confidence. With the Charger,
you'll never forget you're piloting a
large 2-ton sedan.

In terms of engines, the 3.5-liter V6 is
a decent choice for those on a tight
budget, but keep in mind that it's not
particularly powerful or fuel-efficient.
Considering the R/T's horsepower
upgrades this year, it's now the obvious
pick of the regular Charger litter. The
SRT8 is still the top dog, but its much
higher price is hard to justify
considering the relatively minor
increase in performance over the R/T.

Like all Acuras, the TL is a showcase
for the latest automotive gadgets. The
base car comes standard with iPod and
Bluetooth connectivity, and the optional
Technology Package is a cornucopia of
electronics goodies. An excellent
hard-drive navigation system, real-time
traffic and weather forecasts, adaptive
climate control and a superb surround
sound system will have technophiles
playing around in their car while it's
parked. Given the TL's price, it all
comes at quite the bargain and Acura
predicts most TLs will be so equipped.

Our opinion of the 2009 Acura TL varies
depending on the model. The base TL with
no options is really nothing more than a
dressed-up Honda Accord V6, and as such,
it's not the best choice. The Technology
Package makes it slightly more
persuasive, but we really think the
SH-AWD model with its more powerful V6,
better handling and all-wheel-drive
traction is the one to get. But there
are many other choices in the
entry-level luxury sedan game such as
the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Cadillac CTS,
Infiniti G35 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class,
along with non-luxury choices like the
Hyundai Genesis, Nissan Maxima and
Volkswagen CC. Acura's new TL stands out
thanks to its roomy interior,
competitive price, high-tech features
and reputation for reliability, but we
certainly suggest taking a good look
around as each vehicle here has its own
area of appeal.

In general, the Tiguan doesn't stray too
far from the typical compact SUV design.
It seats five, is offered in front-wheel
or all-wheel drive and has nearly all of
the latest convenience and safety
features. But the Tiguan does offer a
neatly tailored Euro design as well as
the high-grade cabin treatment for which
Volkswagen has become known. It also
boasts composed handling and a
comfortable ride.

These aspects help the Tiguan stand out
a bit at the crossover party. But is it
enough? Well, for people who have bought
VW products in the past, the Tiguan will
no doubt be a hit. And those who like to
drive will find its Teutonic driving
dynamics appealing.

But there are some downsides, including
a price tag at least a few thousand
above comparable vehicles and a smallish
cargo capacity. As such, you might find
models like the Honda CR-V or Toyota
RAV4 to be more practical. There's also
the Nissan Rogue, which is similar in
concept to the Tiguan but less
expensive. Still, the 2009 Volkswagen
Tiguan could be a nice alternative for
discerning consumers looking for a
little spice in a mostly bland segment.

US Online America Group Overview :
Powertrains and Performance

The base engine is powered by a
3.8-liter V6 that produces 290 hp and
264 pound-feet of torque. The upgraded
powertrain features a 4.6-liter V8 with
375 hp and 333 lb-ft. Those figures are
with premium fuel; on regular, the
numbers are 368 and 324, respectively. A
six-speed automatic with manual shift
capability sends the power to the rear
wheels in both models.

For a big luxury sedan, the Genesis is
quick -- we timed the butter-smooth V8
at just 5.9 seconds for the 0-60-mph
sprint and 14 seconds flat for the
quarter-mile. EPA fuel economy estimates
for the V6 are 18 mpg city/27 mpg
highway and 21 mpg combined; V8
estimates were unavailable as of this
writing.

Impressions

Like most other Hyundais, the Sonata has
been designed to prioritize ride comfort
over precise handling. It smothers bumps
well and delivers a luscious highway
ride, but with significant body roll and
vague steering, it won't be challenging
sportier competitors like the Honda
Accord or Nissan Altima to a
corner-carving contest any time soon.
With the infusion of additional power
for 2009, the Sonata now features more
competitive acceleration. This is
particularly true with the four-cylinder
versions, but in a class where
horsepower wars are at full Blitzkrieg,
the optional V6's respectable 249-hp
output still comes up a few Panzers short.
