Proud Moment

When my father-in-law was killed back in December the family asked me to perform the funeral. It was one of the most difficult funerals that I have had to do. One thing that made it so hard was the fact that I couldn't be there to comfort my wife as the ceremony proceeded.

It was agony watching her sit there by herself as I started speaking about her father who had been torn away from us only three days earlier. Then, my oldest son got up from sitting beside his wife and walked over to her. She stood up and literally fell into his arms. They hugged for a second or two, sat back down together and then he held her for the rest of the service.

I have never been more proud of my son in my life. I am so thankful that he was willing and able to step in for me when I couldn't be there. I told him so later and he kind of shrugged it off, but it's a moment in time that I will not forget.
