Thanksgiving/Christmas

This past Thanksgiving was the first one in thirty years that my wife and I didn't have to prepare anything and the first one in just as long that we weren't with at least one of my kids. We went to my sister-in-law's house and she just needed us to bring rolls and cranberry sauce. Easy enough, Publix here we come. As for my children, my youngest son is in Canada, my oldest son was on a twenty-four hour shift at the fire department and my daughter is four and a half hours away with her family.

It was very different than what I am used to and I haven't decided if I liked it or not. I'll admit, not having to cook anything was nice, but it was definitely a bummer not getting to see any of my kids. It is going to be just as different next year because we just rented an apartment. We have to go way back to when my daughter was only two years old to find a place in time when we were living in an apartment. Yes, things are definitely changing.

Ever since the hurricane destroyed our home back in September we have been living in a whirlwind. Dealing with FEMA, waiting on insurance, trying to find a place for my parents to live, trying to find a place for us to live. My head is spinning and this is one carousel ride that I am ready to get off of. Next stop, Christmas in a one bedroom apartment. Once again, you have to go back thirty years to find a time when it was just my wife and I for Christmas morning. Once again life seems to be circling back on itself.
