Ugh, I don't like her.

Yesterday, Facebook exploded when NFL players took a knee during the national anthem. Alex was among those who felt it was disrespectful to military and veterans to kneel. She didn't come out and say anything besides liking a few posts and changing her profile picture to say "I Stand."

I said to Brandon yesterday that the people who change their profile picture to that are just advertising to the world they can't understand anything beyond the scope of their own experiences. They are unable to process the concept that for some people in this country they don't feel free. They are being mistreated by law enforcement, the justice system doesn't serve them justly, and they are still experiencing discrimination because of their skin color. People with the "I Stand" profile picture are broadcasting that they don't understand that the American flag means different things to different people. They don't understand that those who are kneeling are not doing so to disrespect veterans, (and for all we know, they are still very grateful for the sacrifice made by them,) but that they kneel because they are tired of living in a country that proclaims to be a land of opportunity and freedom, yet they still feel oppressed. This peaceful protest is to create awareness. If your profile picture says "I Stand" on it, you're too busy being offended to understand that and your lack of empathy toward suffering minorities is exposed. Some might call that racism. I certainly would.

I won't give people that much credit by saying they think that far into it. I think they see the controversy and jump to one side without much consideration. Everyone's got a hot button and for a lot of people, apparently, it's seeing someone being unpatriotic. I'll never understand superpatriotism. "America's the best country. We're the good guys no matter what war we are involved in. We are the land of opportunity and the land of the free! If anyone messes with us, we'll nuke the hell out of 'em! Blow up their whole damn country! God bless America! If you don't think this way, GTFO!"

If Alex truly subscribes to this way of thinking, and I suspect she might, I'm definitely out.
